about

It’s the next day, a new life. Mia packs her few things and heads out of town to the lake house in the country where her mother used to take her when she was a little girl. Her last happy memories were at this place. Staying in the cabin, running around the open trees, sitting on the dock, and swimming in the lake, the best of times for a child. As dusk is setting in Mia arrives on familiar ground and breathes in the fresh air, there is memory on the wind, in the trees. She begins the walk towards the cabin. After a few steps she begins to hear something. She stops. “Must be nothing.” She takes a few more steps and thinks she hears a voice. She pauses. “Couldn’t be,” she thinks. Mia continues to walk and with every few steps the sounds return and seem louder and more clear, so she pauses to listen. The fear melts away. She smiles as she realizes she has nothing to fear. She’s not alone, but there is certainly nobody there but her. She hears angels singing blessings on her as she returns to the home where she left her happiness, her innocence. The goodness of her soul was hidden away here, in the form of her memories of this place, and of her mother. She continues to walk through the trees to the cabin smiling, remembering. She can see herself as a child, playing, dancing around the trees, not a care in the world, the happiest little girl she’s ever seen. She laughs as she plays. She hears her mother call to her from the cabin in the distance. “Mia! Time to come in darling! I made your favorite!” Excited, little Mia runs off to join her mother for dinner...Mia walks on, allowing her memories to come back to her, allowing herself to be absorbed by the love surrounding this happy place. With each step feeling more herself, more the person she was meant to become, more at peace.
